Ubuntu 21.10 has arrived, and with it comes a new GNOME desktop. The new desktop is called GNOME 40, and it’s a major update from the previous version, GNOME 29. GNOME 40 is designed to be more user-friendly and intuitive than ever before. It features a redesigned interface that’s easier to navigate, as well as new features like quick access to your favorite applications and settings. If you’re looking for a more personalized experience, Ubuntu 21.10 is definitely worth checking out. It comes with all the standard software you’d expect from an Ubuntu release, including the latest versions of Firefox, LibreOffice, and Thunderbird. ..

There’s a lot of new stuff in Ubuntu 21.10, and our Linux expert Dave McKay broke it all down in a post explaining what’s new in Impish Indri. The prominent feature that stands out is the customized GNOME 40 desktop, but there’s a lot to be intrigued by.

With Ubuntu 21.10’s version of GNOME 40, instead of seeing the Activities View when you log in, you’ll see your usual desktop, just like previous versions of Ubuntu, which should create a more comfortable experience.

Of course, you can still access the Activities View, which is a critical part of the GNOME 40 experience.

There’s a lot new in GNOME 40 that the latest version of Ubuntu takes advantage of. For a full breakdown of everything new in GNOME 40, check out our guide. Overall, it looks like it makes navigating the OS a cleaner, more streamlined experience.

There’s plenty of exciting new stuff in Ubuntu 21.10 for you to explore. However, our own Dave McKay isn’t so sure that this update is needed for everyone. For users who are happy with LTS who aren’t having issues, McKay thinks upgrading might not be worthwhile, especially when you consider that there’s some risk that comes with updating Ubuntu.

In the end, it’s up to you to decide whether it’s worth your time. There’s some risk involved and the new features aren’t exactly rewriting the book on what we expect from Ububtu, but the update is available to download from the Ubuntu Release page right now if you want it.
