Netflix’s new “Jigsaw” series doesn’t need episode numbers. The show, which is set in a mental hospital, has been praised for its unique and suspenseful storytelling. The series has already aired more than 100 episodes and there are plans to continue the story. “Jigsaw” is a psychological thriller that follows the case of Dr. John Turturro (Matt Damon), a mental health specialist who works at the hospital. The show’s creators said that they didn’t want to create an episode numbering system because they wanted the viewers to feel like they were “invested in the story.” The show’s success has led to other projects by Netflix, such as “House of Cards,” " Narcos," and " Stranger Things."
Netflix’s New Jigsaw Series
The show, which Netflix is calling Jigsaw, is a heist-focused series, as revealed by The Hollywood Reporter. But where it deviates from the standard heist format is that the first seven episodes can be watched in any order. From there, the eighth and final episode must be watched last, as it finishes off the puzzle.
It’s not an interactive adventure, but instead, it’s more similar to Paramount+‘s series called Interrogation, which lets you watch the episodes in a non-linear order.
The show has a rather impressive cast featuring Breaking Bad’s Giancarlo Esposito, Paz Vega, Rufus Sewell, and Jai Courtney. It also features Ridley Scott as one of the executive producers and Erica Garcia as the showrunner. The show was created by Eric Garcia, who also worked on Repo Men and Matchstick Men.
The plot sees Giancarlo Esposito taking on the role of a veteran criminal named Leo Pap who just can’t stay away from the crime life. On the other side of the law is Paz Vega, who plays an attorney named Ava Mercer. It’ll cover the heist from decades before it happens to a year after it all goes down.
The plot is loosely based on a real story where $70 billion in bearer bonds on Wall Street were endangered by floods from Hurricane Sandy.
It sounds like a rather interesting idea, but a show like this really comes down to execution. Not having control over the exact flow of the series is difficult, so we’ll have to wait and see if this delivers.
What Is Jigsaw’s Release Date?
Unfortunately, the report didn’t include a release date. It’s currently filming at Netflix Studios: Brooklyn, so it’s at least far enough along for the company to start shooting the episodes.
