If you’re looking to stream music on your own, there are a few things you need to know. Here are five tips to help you get started:
- Make sure your music player is compatible with streaming services.
- Choose the right streaming service for your needs.
- Use a VPN to protect your privacy and anonymity.
- Set up a playlist and follow the instructions provided by the service.
- Use an app like Spotify or Pandora to listen to your favorite songs offline or on the go!
Thanks to streaming music services, playlists have become a major part of how we listen to music. However, not everyone is taking advantage of playlists. Sure, it’s easy to find good pre-made playlists, but you should make your own.
For a long time, a “playlist” was the list of songs played by a DJ on the radio. Nowadays, we think of playlists more like mixtapes. They’re a collection of songs that usually have some sort of theme. If you’re not making your own, I’ll explain why you should.

The Perfect Music for Every Occasion
One of my favorite things is making playlists for specific occasions. There are plenty of pre-made playlists I could use, but I like to have my own personal playlists for these situations. That can include holidays, seasons, vacations, moods, or activities.
There’s something extra cozy about a Christmas playlist that has been fine-tuned over the years. When I need extra motivation during a run, I have the perfect music to get me going. Feeling the summer vibes creep in on a sunny day in early May? I’ve got a playlist for that, too.
The beauty of making your own playlists is you can make one for literally anything. You could have a playlist for making pizza, your nightly yoga routine, walks through the park, studying at a coffee shop, getting hyped for the big game, when you’re feeling sad, and anything else you can imagine.
Share Playlists With Your Favorite People
Back in the day, making a mixtape for someone was a sign of affection, and I think that translates to playlists too. Spotify has a feature that automates this process, but a personal touch is even better.
Music is a very personal thing, so sharing a playlist with someone can mean a lot. It’s a nice way to share your taste in music, show someone what songs make you think of them, or give someone songs to make them think of you.
Sharing playlists is also great for the situations mentioned in the previous section. You can make a playlist to listen to with friends on a long road trip. Collaborate with your significant other on a playlist for your favorite holiday. Sharing music with people is fun and playlists make it super easy to do.

Be Uniquely You
Spotify puts a lot of effort into curating playlists just for you, but it can only go so far. You don’t have to settle for something made by an algorithm. Who else is going to put the All American Rejects and Doja Cat in the same playlist? Only you!
It’s all about personalization and using the tools available to you. Not everyone is going to take the time to make their own playlists, but they’re missing out. There’s something very satisfying about a playlist that you know inside and out with your own custom cover art.
Music is personal, so put your personal touch on your music. The perfect playlist is not made overnight. It takes time to find the perfect mix for the situation, but once you do find that sweet spot, you’ll enjoy it so much more knowing that you made it.
